jm aka jonny miller, a prolific uk producer with over 23 years in the game shipped over four killer reworks to the gamm headquarters a while back. after the first listen we were immediately hooked. with tasteful measures jm have taken some of our favourite fela kuti, d angelo, weldon irvine and bill withers tunes and turned them into something new and highly exciting. you cant get more gamm than this ... proper!

after recently launching the d3 recordings label to a great reception, the man behind vibes and pepper is ready to launch his second new label, d3 elements. the artist behind the three track ep is raymond funnye aka strong souls, who back in the mid-nineties released on still much mythologised chicago label dance mania as well as the uks black market, which also saw him work with the legendary larry heard. the music he offers here is of a high pedigree from start to finish.

having previously reissued *i want you to know*, the 1991 gem from simonellis groove committee project, deep down slam now return with a remix package. leading the way is italian house producer nicholas in collaboration with marcoradi, with the original s vibe very much intact but complemented by some fresh new beats and arrangement. the second remix comes from french house producer dj steaw who brings the usual quality and gives the remix the classic steaw touch we re used to know. zurich based italian producer demetrio giannice conjures the spirit of vintage tom moulton on his remix and deep down slam have also included simonellis original bonus beats version from 1991 that was mastered by legendary nyc mastering engineer rick essig.

now hitting release number six, fly by night music serves up something slightly different from riccio (bosconi // super value), complete with a remix from craig smith (6th borough project), for its latest offering. this is an equally classy release but more of an obvious disco tip. coming in a press of 200 limited blue vinyl and a letter press sleeve, this is another boutique package from fbnm. the man behind the jungle way ep is italian riccardo zanaroli aka riccio, who most recently appeared on the widely lauded bosconi compilation bosconi stallions. a dj, collector, producer and record seller, riccio is a staple on the italian scene and brings plenty of louche disco funk to this release.

the sophomore release from ali wells new specialty imprint submit, feral grind (submit002) collects tracks from a wide swath of producers who operate at the intersection of techno, drone and diy electronics. curated by wells and music journalist justin farrar, the compilation features a balanced assortment of well-established innovators and under-the-radar sound explorers. the names pete swanson, prostitutes, burial hex, profligate, bleaching agent, hive mind and indignant senility will certainly be familiar to those who keep abreast of the latest developments in cutting-edge electronic music.

laak return on austere with four cuts, only available on vinyl as usual. laak are on point with the opening track unbalanced, an intensely gritty track. there is also a remix of an archive laak track by dj spider who completely dismantles the original to create a dark menacing remix. the b side kicks off with mental & emotional which continues the theme along with the more laid back track, the rituals. overall an ep that will not disappoint fans of the label.

who the fuck is s.e.p.e.?

first remix was done by mr raoul k who is well known for his productions that mixes original african instruments with techno and deep house. his releases spreaded his unique sound over the world with great acclaim from gilles peterson, joe claussel and many other djs. his 12 min epic rework is full of psychedelic elements, hypnotic grooves and african percussions. gilles peterson already supported this one on his worldwide show.

here is dj spiders first lp available on 12 inch vinyl. this double pack is drenched in original, deep house music for those who like sample based tracks. stunning live instrumentation is on display here as well with some appearances from the likes of boyd jarvis, sly scott, dub poet infinity and spider himself.

acid diaper as he was descriped by the prspct crew earlier this year: there is quite some mystery surrounding this new producer. even us at prspct hq have no idea who he is and where he is from. he has chosen to keep his identity secret to the world. kind of like batman but instead of fighting bad people this vigilantes goal is to terrorize the world with pure audio violence. 4/4, acid, gabber dnb designed to torture the average mainstream music listener. however, us deranged individuals at prspct hq fucking love it and can assure you. his tunes rock out hard!

this 5 track ep from chicagos noble square is based on the rolling canvas artwork on various freight trains in chicago and features cuts by lifes track (2 young italian producers), defend:r and label boss ricardo miranda (who also did the label artwork and photography).

ark to ashes is a new label brought to you by shadi megallaa. the first release features the linguinis (shadi megallaa & nadir agha aka ostrich). the second track sees the triumphant return of grant dell who brings his usual dub by goodness. the 3rd and final track is a re-release of a coastal commission track titled bring down the walls which was originally released on pacific coast house. you can expect a lot more dub by influenced house/techno on ark to ashes in the future.

bow ep, the 5th modal analysis release, delivers two cutting-edge techno tracks from the manchester-based duo and, as well as a remix by russell haswell. bow #1 and bow #2 highlight the distorted broken-beat style that and specialize in. completing the record is haswell, who displays his own harsh, rhythmic noise aesthetic with a decomposition of bow #1.

cassegrain & tin man are a deadly combination. old school acid lines programmed by one of the greatest masters in this field meet a super modern techno sound design by cassegrain, who have made themselves a name in the last years for producing some of the finest in dark and experimental techno. for the follow up to their debut release on killekill they have put together three tracks that are outstand- ing. high & low is a slowly swelling minimalistic acid epos of over 10 minutes length which proves the mas- tership of tin man in programming acid loops of eternal quality. 8 beats length only, but constantly evolving. no chance for boredom. the b-side starts with sex kit, a dark acid stomper with a chirping percussion which is well suitable for the peaktime dancefloor, followed by sand maze, a sublte minimalistic ambient acid piece, that winds its way into total dissolution. we are quite sure that this is the way acid should sound in 2013.

crimes of the future is a new label from timothy j fairplay & scott fraser, and follows on from their night of the same name at the berkeley suite, glasgow and in plastic people, london. timothy and scott both work out of andrew weatheralls basement bunker studio on scrutton street and are part of a group of djs becoming known as the scrutton street axis. timothy is also one half of the asphodells with andrew weatherall who released their first album *ruled by passion, destroyed by lust* this year on rotters golf club.

slum science was formed in 2003 by uk producer danny white who released the gs delight ep on daz saunds resident records london label. collaborations with dan ruck & eddie leader saw the slumsters have subsequent releases on deep future, icon, greenhouse, jackin tracks and black cherry gaining fans along the way from heads like mark fafina and derrick carter.

legendary studio 1 re-release! >a series of very special minimal funky music based on very small and sneaky samples, danceable music but very much influenced by architecture and by the idea of taking minimal by the word and leaving out as much elements as possible to bring the maximum within the minimum.< – wolfgang voigt on the studio 1 series. with this re-release of two tracks from wolfgang voigts seminal studio 1 series, lisbons assemble music turns the spotlight back on to what amounts to the basic grammar of most contemporary underground house and techno. along with basic channel and the concept series, studio 1 has long been acknowledged as one of the forerunners of minimalist techno, though voigt is at pains to point out the >differences between their handwriting. rightly so, since neither mark & moritz nor hawtin prioritised the funk and fizz that jumps out of these two tracks >gelb< the determined younger brother to the more conventionally dubby (but no less groovy) >lila<. any producer who has spent long hours making minute adjustments to the interplay between the simplest of elements – kick, bass, snare, hats – should know they have been walking in voigts ever-so-well-placed footsteps. this re-release from assemble music serves as a reminder of where the music has come from

in the 1970s the american composer henry flynt started a series of pieces under the title >new american ethnic music<. in so doing he worked together native styles of music such as blues, country or hillbilly with electronic production methods to make something altogether new. so far in germany it has never been attempted to rework folklore electronically for a compilation. however, this picture changes if one redefines the idea of who the population is. incomers have brought new >national anthems< to germany, which means - even the portuguese fado, the african gnawa, the croatian klapa or the vietnamese quan ho are these days at home in germany. with the cultural project >heimatlieder aus deutschland< (native songs from germany) founded by former spex editor mark terkessidis and label manager jochen kühling all the various styles of traditional folk music now found in germany has been collected. thirteen of the songs recorded for the project have now been transformed by contemporary electronic producers to present a >new german ethnic music<. but why remixes? for one thing electronic music has recently focused a lot on the past (ghost music, hypnagogic pop etc.) – electronic editing is well suited to follow the effects of the immigrant music which the >imaginary national anthems< has created. furthermore the projects instigators were curious how >electronic musicians< would handle folk music and folk songs which is a hugely difficult task. to this end artists were sought out who could get along with the idea of each music style and who are known to already have experimented with the human voice. the results are as varied as the music styles and djs involved. some melodies remain completely intact while others are abstracted beyond recognition. margaret dygas associative approach ensured that she presents a polish song about a girls arranged marriage with a claustrophobic feeling. with his remix of the marrabenta of mozambique mark ernestus has continued the rhythmic experiments he is known for with jeri jeri. thomas mahmoud translated gnawa into dub and finaly ulrich schnauss turned the song of the italian chorus of >donni so< into a hymn for the horizon-expanding power of migration.hopefully this compilation will also expand some horizons.

after the huge success of degree 002 by nick curly, which was played a lot on the hot summer festivals 2013, the label now comes up with its 3rd cracker called >nature calls ep< of the three romanian guys horatio, elchinsoul and gruia. three well-known artists, who will again let degree impact on the dancefloors around. despite the stylistic variety of three producers, a clear golden thread runs through the sound. it combines the sultry soul of romania and lets the blood boil in your veins. all in all degree again releases a totally different record, which however has its typical style. high-class sound which is told by artists, who tell more than just one story. a powerful ep for each moment in life and on the dancefloor.
